Vote or Die

Ok, so if you don't vote you won't die but pretty-please-with-sugar-on-top tell which dress you think I should wear to the holiday party on Saturday.

No, I didn't suddenly bust out the old Visa card and go on a shopping spree; the daughter of a coworker is away at college and not only does the daughter have a penchant for buying fancy schmancy dresses and leaving them behind when she goes away to school, her mother has a penchant for ransacking her daughter's room and letting total and complete strangers borrow her clothes.

Whatever, I'll let them duke it out in family therapy 'cause mama has two dresses to choose from.

Please excuse my face and hair, I just got done roping cattle having the kids' Christmas portraits done.

I like the way the black one fits and hello, you can never go wrong with black, but the neckline is strikingly similar to the black dress I already own and have worn to the party for the past three years (and to every other event requiring me to get out of my work clothes or yoga pants) and I'd like to wear something different:

The black dress.

The green one is beautiful and flowy and it has color! OMG! I'm not wearing black! It is all feminine and I felt so beautiful in it but it is a little baggy on me and yes, I need to put a bra on the A-team. But saggy ta-ta's aside, what do you think?

I really, really favor the green one but I think I'm being swayed by the fact my coworker told me it is from Anthropologie and it cost $300.00. My car isn't even worth $300.00 and here I could step out on the town in a $300.00 dress from a store that, according to the beat on the street (read: all the other mama blogs that I read), is really hip and OMG! I could wear color.

The green dress

VOTE!

I vote for the green one. Can you put a couple whip stitches in the sides to bring it in some? It will not hurt thr dress and they can be taken out easily.

Either way, the green looks beautiful on you with your coloring. You simply must wear it! LOL.

I love the black one it is very flattering on you and looks nice for a holiday party.

I think the black one is more flattering also, but if you could find some kind of bra that would work under the green one and maybe do the whip stitch thing...I *do* like the color! It just looks a little big like you said. The black looks like something that was custom made for you...it looks that great on you!

The black one is more immediately stunning, like, "whoa!" But the green one is gorgeous as well and I think you will stand out more at the party. Everyone wears black to those things and you will turn heads!

I'm with the other voters, you look stunning in the black dress. It fits you really well, but I see your point that it is really similar to the one that you own.

I like Abby's idea of having the green one taken in a bit on the sides so it fits more snuggly around your bodice.

I like the black one because it fits you better. Spend $10 to get the green dress taylored, and that would get my vote. That color is gorgeous.

Oh, and did I mention that one of my goals in life to buy an Anthropologie dress? I drool over that catalogue. Lucky!

I agree with everyone else it seems. The black one looks gorgeous on you, but I love the green as well. If you could take up the green one a little I think that would be the way to go. If not, the black one is much more flattering.

Black one is HAWT and the thing around the waist goes good with your hair---it might have the same neckline going on as your last dress, but it IS a different dress.
Green rocks, too, cause, like everyone else said--you have good skin color AND, green is a christmas color. Maybe if you can find the right bra to hold the girls up, then it might make a difference with how the dress hangs?

I totally understand about the green dress, but the black one looks so fabulous on you. I love the belt on the dress.

Maybe you could dress it up with some really nice jewerly. Some dangling earrings or a nice braclet.

Good Luck

ACK! So much to think about!

I just asked a lesbian friend which dress she likes better and she told me the she likes the green dress and I told her that everyone else likes the black and she told me "yeah, but do they like girls?"

HAH!!!!!

I think I'll post a picture of me wearing the green dress with a padded bra and let that be the final decision.

I do love the black one but it is so much like the one I own... kwim???

Go with the green. The black dress is gorgeous, but it does look remarkably like your other black dress. The green is beautiful and will stand out in a crowd.

It's funny. I pretty much agreed with everyone about the black dress...on first glance. But when I looked at them both again, I totally think you should go with the green dress. It's different enough that it will make a statement: green is definitely the new black. Yes, it's a bit baggy on the sides (oh, if we all had that problem!), but like several people suggested, it can easily be taken in. And I'm a huge fan of the padded bra for support, if I do say so myself. Nothing wrong with that, girl!

Okay, I asked Dh and he voted for the black dress. And he likes girls. LOL! He, also, said that it is nothing like the other dress because you have the opening at the neck of the new dress.

Make that another vote for the black one.

I definitely need to see you in the padded bra to decide. Although the sides should probably still come in because as is it makes your waistline look bigger than it acutally is.

I am always amazed at how stunning you are.

I think the black fits better. But the green is really beautiful.

It's a win, win.

And it looks like the Goose loves them both :)

Thanks everyone (and wow, thank you crazedmommy)!!!

I'm so torn and while in the big picture, this isn't that big of a deal but it is my one night out and I want to look good. Plus, I'm on the entertainment committee so I'll be highly visible.

Oh yeah, as far as my lesbian theory, my other friend who is also a lesbian prefers the black dress. Hmmmmm.....

I'm voting for the green one for sure but a little suggestion; The sash/cumberbund is a great look with the empire waist like on the black dress, you could go to JoAnn fabrics and find some beautiful festive fabric maybe even with some red or plaid or gold or all of the above and make a sash. My first thought was that the green dress needed a little something in the front. Do you have another pair of shoes you love in a different color? You could find fabric with that color and the shoes wouldn't look strange. I have 3 kids and no money, Jo Ann fabrics is my friend, you can make anything look great and new with a little trim/fabric/sequins etc. Good luck deciding.

Because everyone wears black and, as you said, it is similar to a dress you already own and worn to previous shindigs.

and it is green. for a holiday party. that's like wearing pastels for easter. or orange for halloween. I mean, you might not wear that dress any other time, so do it now.

If it about the belt/empire waistline, go to the fabric store and make one (as anonymous suggested)

The green is just superior in every way to the black one. And, um, I know a thing or two about black dresses.

Yea see? You HAVE to wear the green dress. It is more memorable. Seriously.

Despite my own hatred for color-go for green! It's looks incredible, and lights up your face-with your hair color it totally works!

Both look fine, but the green is GREAT.

So jealous. A: You look fab. B: You have someone to go and look fab at.

Blogger Singlemomma said...

Oh yeah...I'll totally change my vote if you a.put on a padded bra and b. make some cool sash for the waist. I do love the color of the green. Now I'm a weirdo that voted twice on how to dress a person I don't know at all. LOL

P.S. Thanks for calling my hubby a hottie.

P.S.S. Don't ever tell your hubby that someone called him a hottie if you want him to be tolerable for the rest of the evening.

Ha Ha! I like the lesbian opinions... I like the black. I know it is similar to what you've worn in the past and I want to like the green one better for you as it is expensive (I'm SO not hip, I never heard of Athrology or whatever it is!) and because it is different... but I can't help it, I like the black one better. I think it is classy and the gold waist is very pretty.

Just found your blog, so I'm probably not qualified to vote, but.....what the heck (I usually stick my opinion in where it's not wanted)...

I vote for the green. I definitely think the color is more memorable and looks great with your skin. And you're right the neckline on the black is too similar to the other dress. I also agree with the Anonymous person. Perhaps you could whip out a similar sash for the green one. There are all types of great sash belts out there right now that would work if you're not a seamstress. (I almost typed sewer.) So.....go forth in GREEN!

Leah, of course you're qualified to vote!

LOL, PM, all the women on Babycenter constantly tell me the husband is hot so I can totally relate.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Much appreciated. I just posted that I was going to wear the black but ack!!! you green people are so convincing!
